1998 Eastern Ontario Champs

1968-69 Westport Rideaus

Founded in 1967 by three local businessmen ( Ansley Green, Hal Lynn and Jim Wing) as a not for profit Junior Hockey Club, the team proudly remains a community run organization today, as our founders intended. The Westport Rideaus Jr.B. Hockey Club has been a vibrant and critical component in the fabric of our community. Joining the Rideau Division in 1969, the Rideaus have been a model of success both on and off the ice. Our loyal fans are known throughout the league for traveling near or far to cheer on their local heroes. Off ice, our success is built around the strong community support, tireless volunteers and strong relationships with our community partners .

The spring of 2015 saw changes to the landscape of  Jr B Hockey in Eastern Ontario. The Rideaus joined the new CCHL 2 and  became part of Glenview Sports Entertainment, and the family of local hockey teams owned by the Cassel family:

CCHL Tier 1 - Smiths Falls Bears.

CCHL Tier 2 - Westport Rideaus.

HEO Midget AAA  - Smiths Falls Bears.

CHAMPIONSHIPS WON. 1997 - 98 Eastern Ontario Jr. B Hockey League Champions. 

                                       FOUR times Rideau/St. Lawrence Jr. B Conference Champions.

                                      TEN times the Rideaus have won the Rideau Division Championship.

                                      The Rideaus have four times won the Eastern Ontario Jr. B Hockey League Boxing Day Tournament. Their most recent Tournament Championship coming during the 04 - 05 season at home.

NOTABLE RIDEAU GRAUATES.........

      Jimmy Howard - played the U.S.A. under 18 team in 2001-02 winning the under 18 world championship. Played NCAA Div.1 for the     Maine Black Bears. Drafted by Detroit Red Wings and a member of the 2008 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings.   

Aaron Lewis- played professionally in Europe &USA.

Todd Mallette - played professionally in England and Holland.

Christian Skoryna – played in the WCHL. 

        Mark McCreary - won an ECHL Championship with the Toledo Storm.

       Tom O'Toole - played in the AHL, he is now retired.

        Dave Burt - was inducted into the Brock University Athletic Hall of Fame.

       Ian Laroque - attended Northern Michigan and then played professionally in the Western Professional League.

      Dave Ambler  played professional hockey in the U.S.

RETIRED RIDEAU JERSEYS -  Over the years the Rideaus Jr. B Hockey Club has recognized many selected individuals and players. Rideaus Builders - Ansley Green, Hal Lynn, and Jim Wing founded the team in 1967. On Dec.23, 2005, the Westport Rideaus recognized over forty years of dedication, commitment and excellence by retiring jerseys honouring Rideaus Builders Earl and Eddy Mulville.

#1 David McCarthy - Played with the Rideaus from 1996 to 2000. Goaltender of EOJBHL Championship team in 1997-98 and was MVP of that playoff run, scoring a goal in the final game.

#9 Terry "Rico" Merkley - played 5 years 1980 - 81 thru 1984 - 85, Terry was killed in an automobile accident on November 16, 1985. He was also a member of the Lanark Sernior "A" Flyers.

#17 Steve Merkley - played 8 years and then coached the team for 3 years.

#20 Rob Stoness - Rob was voted the Rideau Division Rookie of the Year for the 1990 - 91 season. Rob was killed in an automobile accident on July 29, 1991.

 #66 Todd Mallette - holds the EOJBHL single season point record 163 points. 1991 - 92 season: 42 games played - 57 goals - 107 assists - total 163

#99 Robert Parslow - holds the EOJBHL all time leading scoring record 553 points. Career Statistics: 200 games played - 264 goals - 289 assists - total 553.
